MEP BIM Case Study

Eaton’s Seismic Hangers
Advenser implemented Revit Family Creation and Bill of Quantities (BOQ) Preparation to support the Design and Construction of Eaton’s Seismic Hangers.

Revit family creation

Project Information

Project Type: Revit Family Creation

Location: Illinois, USA

Services Provided: Revit Family Creation and Preparation of BOQ for the client.

Project Duration: 60 Days

Client Category: Manufacturer / Supplier

Software: Revit, Solidworks and AutoCAD

Deliverables: .rfa and .rvt file formats

About the Project:

We had to deliver Revit families of hanger components and seismic hangers as per the catalogue information and equipment list provided in excel format.

Skills & Expertise Involved:

Expertise in Revit Family creation and BOQ preparation.

Scope of Work

Advenser provided the following services:

3D Modeling of seismic hangers and their associated components

Modeling high-quality geometry that complies with the client requirements and standards.

Incorporating metadata for each component within its scope.

Ensuring metadata visibility in the schedule generated during the preparation of the BOQ.

Challenges

During the preparation of the Bill of Quantities (BOQs) for the main seismic hanger assembly, nested components required careful attention.

After we had completely 3D modelled the components and assembly, the client asked us to incorporate additional metadata, such as catalog number, operational and maintenance manuals, material specifications, and Universal Product Code (UPC) values, to help them carefully evaluate the product before purchase and delivery. However, it was challenging to add additional data after finished the modeling was done.

Solutions

Our BIM Auditors provided acute and thorough verification of the BOQ to ensure accuracy of nested components.
We devised a method to sift through the extensive and unstructured data received, subsequently assessing the feasibility and practicality of integrating these data into the project while still adhering to client requirements and maximizing value. Rather than declining the suggested changes, we chose to address them and deliver high-quality files that met the client’s needs.

Our Value Addition

Adding in additional metadata after modeling and assembling a 3D requirement is no easy task. However, our expertise in Bill of Quantities (BOQ) preparation and Revit enabled us to acquiesce our client’s request and helped them evaluate the product more thoroughly before purchase.

Finally, our experienced auditing services ensured the accuracy of nested components in the BOQ.
